West started the season with a friendly at Northern on September 15. Northern are a team we will meet in the League and we were given a massive boost with 41-8 victory.
Last weekend, West U18s met old foes Morpeth on home territory. The West squad was in top-notch form, a credit to coach Gary Miller and team manager Ian Butler who have held this 'development' side together through the trials and tribulations of the Brinkburn experience.
This is the first West U18 team for many years that is a force to be reckoned with in junior Rugby and is massively important for the future of the club. It looks promising.
Not giving any quarter to the bigger and apparently stronger side, West pushed, ran and passed very well to achieve at 26-0 lead after 28 minutes. In the second half, Morpeth defended well and the final score was 26-7. West's tries were Borthwick (2), Clayton, and Richardson. Wallis made three successful conversions.
