The servcie was conducted by former West player the Rev. David Webster, and tributes were paid by Ron Greig and Alan Harkness.
The pall bearers were Captains and Coaches from the club: Tim Sawyer,. Graeme Southern, Andrew Dixon, Gareth Foreman, and Jon and Dan Boatman.
The congregation heard that Reg's sporting endeavours included being the youngest player to represent Durham County at rugby when he was only 17. On the cricket field he is still in the North Yorkshire South Durham record books for the 9 for 68 he took in a game against Middlesbrough in 1946. Reg was only 15 at the time.
His successes on the pitch were followed by his achievements as an administrator at West, and later at the Bay Area Rugby Club in Texas.
But all the speakers emphasised that the overriding quality which Reg will be remembered for was as a genuine gentleman.

Following the service the cortege stopped at Brinkburn so that the family could lay a tribute from his absent friends from the Bay Area club in Houston.
