Women's Team Launched
The RFU have given their support to plans to form a West women's rugby team. The core of a side is already in place and now it's planned to form a committee and attract more players.

Angela Chapman, the club's Safeguarding Officer, has been instrumental in getting the plan off the ground.

She says: " I met with the RFU on Tuesday evening and the Ladies team is now up and running. Obviously they need a committee and kit but the basic things are in place.

"They would probably train on a Tuesday from 5.30 pm-6.30 pm and we have  offers to help out coaching - but a long term coach would be welcome.

"At first it will be for training and practice games with a view to more serious  games in the  2012 season. The RFU have offered to do some publicity and if anyone wants to get involved in either administration, coaching or playing  please shout up."

just wondering what a core group of people consisted of? theres a few ex hartlepool players that are playing for various teams across the north. Who would be reluctant to make moves, due to going thorough rebuilding of a team several times before, and last time failing to come through the otherside due to lack of interest/young people coming through.

Hi,
We have some senior players, some ladies who have never played but more important we have the chance of two Y11 girls teams as well, or a mix, so we have progression.
Cant promise a full side at the moment but with publicity and support we will grow.
West want the team and are being supportive.
Fun and fitness get settled this coming season then take things from there. Dont want to rush so we do it right and avoid the pit falls from past years.
Would welcome any advice or guidance!

Great News to here ther will be a women's rugby team back in the town.

I think I was the first girl to play for West back in 1988 and played for the senior side till we moved to the old boys in 1998 and 23yrs later I am still playing.

There is a group of women who do still travel out of town to play rugby every week.

I dont think I will be coming to play back at West in the nearby future as I really enjoy playing at Darlington and really dont fancy starting form the bottom again, however if you need any help and training does not clash with Darlington Training I am more than happy to help out when I can.

My email is p.bell@tees.ac.uk if someone one wants to send me an email. I will ask Darlington Ladies RFU if they will come down a few times for a training session (even if it is touch).

It is very hard setting up a Women's Rugby Team as most of the Hartlepool Ladies team will know when we folded a few years ago and tryed our best to recruit new players it was heartbraking for the team to call it a day. Im sure if the club fully supports the team and you work hard to make it a success and walk before you can run Women's rugby will be once again be back in Hartlepool.

There is a Durham Women's Rugby Meeting next Wednesday evening at DMP it might be worth someone attending if you have not already been invited.

i have never played rugby union before, but i am currently playing my first season in rugby league and have now got a bug for it...i live in the peterlee area and would love some more information thanks nicci

We have a sevens game on Friday 6.15 at Seaton, if you want to come along, then we are looking at Tuesdays 530-630 ish. When we get the chance to get together we can sort out any issues around times and things in-case people cant make it then.

my girlfriend is intresting in playing, she has played before d for old boys when they had a side and she tells me that she was mint! but she would be un able to make any sort of session on a tuesday due to work. have you got a contact email or number she could get in touch with you's to speak about this?

Yes we will have other nights but Tuesday is best for the majority so far.
Chris Hyndman has offered us some Friday evenings so that's an option.
She is welcome to come along Friday 615 at Seaton, there is a BBQ after the games as well this week and we can take things from there.
