Morpeth 7s
The Longhirst 7s - better known to old people as the Morpeth 7s - takes place this Sunday with a West side among the 12 who will be taking part ...

In addition to ourselves and Morpeth, Alnwick and Mowden Park are sending teams.

The competition will be run in three groups of four with the three winners and the best runner up progressing to the semi finals. The league placing will be decided first of all by League points, in the event of two teams finishing on the same amount of points the positions will be decided by the following and in this order:

  • Most tries scored
  • Least tries conceded
  • Points difference
  • Toss of a coin

All teams are being asked to arrive at 12 noon to register in the club house.

Group One: Mighty Peth - Group Fitness - Mowden Park - Ringers.

Group Two: Peth Baa-Baas - The Batmen - West Hartlepool - KS Crusaders

Group Three: Morpeth - The Raiders - Alnwick Barbarians - The Wolf Pack

This group shouldn't give you too much too much to worry about.
The Batmen: will probably be the biggest challenge in the group, as they will have reasonable players but are mainly a social side, with most players coming from Westoe, or clubs lower down the leagues. Westoe have a game on Saturday and have been struggling a bit with injuries, so can't see them beeing overly fresh.

KR Crusaders: I think this is Guisbrough rugby club plus a couple of army boys, they may quite fit, but no match for a strong West side.

Peth Bas Bas: formed to 'make up the numbers', as there would have been an awkward number of teams (11) otherwise. This will be made up of players that fancy a game, but don't have a team, so just turn up on the day. I beleive they are still looking for players if anyone is not involved in the West side, and looking for a run out? If so just turn up with you boots and ask to speak to Tom Wilkinson.

Other teams in the tournament that should be strong will be Mowden Park, Newcastle Uni (The Wolf Pack) and The Mighty Peth.
