Driffield Preview II

Driffield Preview II
Stephen Stockdale
Adam Howard is off playing rugby league league for York so club captain Andrew Dixon comes in on the bench as we look to lay the Driffield hoodoo ...

Kelleythorpe has been far from a happy hunting ground for us. It began with a superb 49-0 performance by the home side in a game in which they could do nothing wrong - running in some superb tries from every direction.

That was followed by a 22-17 end of season game, which we should have won, followed by a 31-29 defeat where Tom Dixon could have sneaked it. Sadly, he missed a tricky last minute penalty.

The last encounter was in our promotion season - and another game we should have won. We turned round at half time with the slope and a veritable gale at our backs, and all we had to do was kick it into the corner. For some strange reason we only did that once and managed to lose 18-8.

Tom Dixon is back in the line-up after recovering from his calf injury. Otherwise the starting line-up is the same which ground out an excellent victory at a very wet Old Crocs last week with Stephhen Stockdale starting at No 8.

Driffield will be the third Yorkshire side we will have faced in succession, and so far we have only conceded one penalty in those 160 plus minutes of rugby. The new hard tackling centre partnership of Gav Robinson and Luke Watson is a considerable factor in that success.

It will be another difficult game. Driffield are always solid on their home patch even though they are in the unaccustomed position of being in the bottom half of the table having own only four games.

But they have a remarkable 11 bonus points, mainly for losing games by less than 7 points, and last week won at Pontefract which is never easy.

With five out of the next six games at home victory at Kelleythorpe would give us the perfect spirngboard for next week's top of the table clash with Pery Park.

West: 15 Colin Cheslin, 14 Adam Larkin, 13 Luke Watson, 12 Gavin Robinson, 11 Andrew Cheslin, 10 Gareth Foreman, 9 Andrew Foreman, 1 Anth Carr, 2 Liam Bailey, 3 Adam Coates, 4 Tom Dixon, 5 Andrew Davies, 6 Dan Boatman, 7 Jon Boatman [c], 8 Stephen Stockdale,  Reps: Paul Moss, Andrew Dixon, Darren Thomas.
