The most important result of last season was that we were finally able to sign a 50 year lease at Brinkburn. It means we can develop the clubhouse and raise money to put back into rugby.
As a result plans are now well underway to build a new function suite to help us realsie the potential of the location. Watch this space.
We have also this week agreed a signficant sponsorship deal with a nationally known company. They will sponsor the whole club this season and move on to first team shirt sponsorship next season. Again watch this space.
Local companies are also actually approaching us. They're keen to advertise on the boards round the ground. We already have a much better take up of companies wanting to sponsor games than we had last season.
It's also looking much better on the pitch. The two pre-season games went better than anyone could have expected with the team running in 12 tries against higher league opposition.
A number of young players came through in those games but, whoever was playing, the pattern was there, and it was all very encouraging.
Quite how encouraging we will start to find out tomorrow.
A trip to Cleckheaton will be one of the hardest games in North One East this season - as hard a curtain raiser as you can get.
Last season we sneaked home thanks to an injury time Paul Moss drop goal, after an unlikely fight back in the last 20 minutes.
Cleck more than got their own back later in the season when they won at Brinkburn to virtually consign us to relegation. That win gave them a chance which they didn't go on to take.
The West team will include some youthful faces - Liam Bailey earning his place at hooker after some dynamic displays. Second row Joe Rafferty comes in on the bench.
The Foremans will be at half back with Adam Larkin starting on one wing and Colin Cheslin on the other - Scott Butcher has had that shirt in the warm-up games but is away. Scott Jordan will be available for most of the season and starts at full back.
Cleck have lost a couple of players in No 8 Burrows and aggressive flanker Lance Hamilton. They have brought in 6ft 7in second row Dave Freeman from Heath rugby club.
The home team go into the game on the back of an extra time Yorkshire cup victory at fellow North One east side Pontefract, and it's more than likely that neither of the two sides tomorrow will have to fear a second relegation.
But both will be very eager for a quick return to the national leagues.
