We had the strong wind behind us in the first half and camped in the home half. However, we failed to take advantage with only a missed Paul Moss penalty to show for our efforts.
Beverley finally broke out on the half hour with Anth Carr surprised to find himself sin-binned for going in at the side.
The home side chose to go for a line-out rather then risk a shot at the posts in the wind.
We looked to have escaped when they knocked on just on the 22 but, with Carr off and flanker Adam Howard in the front row, the home side took the ball against the head. Skipper Dave Worral taking advantage of the gap at flanker to go over.
Things got worse a minute later when full back Colin Cheslin was tackled into touch and received a boot in the head.
Both sets of replacements and coaches engaged in a bit of debate on the touchline while Cheslin was attended to - unfortunately he couldn't continue.
Then Jonny Boatman had to be led from the field after suffering an accidental poke in the eye.
Stu Weites replaced Cheslin and veteran Antony Cameron came on for JB to do a sterling job in the back row.
At 5-0 down and facing the wind the second half was always going to be a hard task.
Beverley’s big experienced backs, ably marshalled by centre Junior Tupai were constantly creating overlaps and their pressure forced Gareth Kerr to clear for touch on 50 minutes from behind his own line. From the line out flanker Craig Hancock spotted a gap.
Two minutes later he was crossing the line for a second time, to effectively end the contest, after Tupai had created space with an overlap. Fly half Phil Doublay getting his first conversion of the afternoon.
With Gareth Kerr running the ball at every opportunity we did continue to try take the game to the hosts who were celebrating 50 years as a club.
But it was Beverley who took advantage of a turnover with winger Goran Jelenic racing down the right touchline to eventually touch down under the posts.
The consolation score West deserved came on 65 minutes when Jamie Connolly and Liam Bailey interchanged passes in a dash up the wing with Connolly going over.
Centre Jade Gardiner restored the home margin with a couple of minutes left after breaking clear on the right wing.
The lads never gave up and performances from the likes of Liam Bailey bode well for next season. He isn't 18 until next month, wheh he becomes eligible to play at his accustomed position of hooker, but had a storming game on the flanks with a tackle count the Boatmans would have been proud of.
One other bright spot was the 24-17 win by the Under 16s who went down to help Beverley celebrate their birthday.
