Aldwinians Preview

The second half of the season starts with the unbeaten top side taking on the bottom side which has yet to chalk up a win - but nobody at Brinkburn is taking this game lightly.[ko 2.15] Aldwinians have had a couple of better results in the last two games and certainly have new faces in their backs.

They lost the bottom of the table clash with York by 22-13, and were beating Gateshead at half time in their last game only for the home side to eventually take the game 31-17.We will also have some enforced changes. Rob Thorn [aptly named as far as the opposition is concerned]is away on holiday while skipper Anth Carr is banned until the end of the month.

In comes Colin Cheslin after a patient wait on the bench, and Brett Cullinane who is just happy to play whenever asked.

At the other end of the age scale 17 year old Scott Butcher makes his first time appearance. The winger has impressed in virtually every Stags game he has played and gets his chance to step up after copach Tim Swayer watched an impressive Stags display last week against Carlisle.

There was a host of fine performances that day including contributions from Carl Miller, back to fitness after a shoulder injury, and Jon Norris who is still kicking himself after being help up over the line twice. At least he got there!

In the first fixture Neil Howe had a tremendous second half as we cantered to a 35-0 victory and he will be looking to start where he left off. Peter Hodgson will once again captain the side from outside centre.

Both forwards join Butcher on a bench and will be missed by an otherwise strong Stags side which faces a hard game at Mowden Park IIs in the CaNDY league.

There will be a pitch inspection before Aldwinians set off from Manchester at 10.00. The first team pitch was inspected today and would have been playable so, unless there is a harder than forecast frost overnight, there should be little problem.
