That was in the dark days when we had to play at Rovers, after being relegated from the top flight, and losing almost the entire playing staff.
Ron and John Stabler launched a joint charm offensive to put together a team to fulfill the fixtures and a behind the scenes team to steady the ship.
It was Ron's idea to make the move to Brinkburn where the club is now building a bright future. Together with other committee members, he travelled up and down the country supporting the players who were fighting the odds every game just to keep the club alive.
Club President Reg Turner paid full tribute at the AGM. He said that Ronnie made his first team debut when he turned up as a spectator when he was a student in Leeds and we played at Headingley. Ron had only turned up to watch but found himself on the wing.
He had more time to prepare for his legendary appearances at the Golden Oldie nights at Brinkburn where his Shirley Bassey and Elvis Presley impersonations always brought the house down.
Ron told the AGM that while he was returning from the Board he would still be an active club member - so his stage performances may not yet be at an end!
