The game has been arranged to give both sides a chance to try a few things at a vital stage of the season - although a heavy pitch might be the dominant factor. West have Lambert and Howe in the centre and Henderson at No 8.
Young is now in serious contention, after finishing his Durham School season, while the signing of Andy Dixon from Mowden Park is an important move following the serious injury to Tim Sawyer.
Dixon could well have played against Morpeth but honoured his commitment to play for Mowden last weekend. He lines up against one of his former clubs as do a number of players - on either side!
The game also provides another chance for John Painter to play in the same West side as son Gavin - the find of the season so far. He gets another chance at fly half where he looked more than comfortable in the last 20 minutes against Morpeth.
The Stags are at home on Saturday to Billingham and team selection has taken that fixture into account, but there is still an opportunity for the likes of Dave Garside, James Masshedar and Colin Cheslin to impress the first team coaches.
West:Masshedar, C Cheslin, Lambert, Howe, Edwards, G Painter, Young, Norris, A Dixon, Carr, Garside, T Dixon, C Miller, D Boatman, Henderson. Reps: Cullinane, J Painter, Tighe.
