That might just persuade Stabs to let Jamie Connolly start his first match of the season after recovering from a minor knee op.!
Stabs had orginally hoped to have three day training camp at Lancaster University but work and holiday committments meant that too many of the lads would not have been able to make it.
It wll be very much the same set of lads who hqad a good run around on a very greasy pitch against Hartlepool. Nick Prest will be the one addition to that squad and young Under 18's prop Anthony Carr will again be involved. He is one of the up and coming players from the Junior section who will soon be 18 - the qualifying age for senior rugby.
There is also a good chance that flying winger Frankie Coulson will be making the trip.
Vale are in North 2 West this season with the likes of Broughton Park and will provide a very useful test.
Stabs says: "They will provide perfect opposition ahead of the Westoe cup match. We enjoyed the workout against Old Boys and appreciated the way they stuck to their task.
"There were some good things to come out of the game and also a lot of areas to work on. We had Jamie Connolly and John Painter on the touchline making notes and we have sat down and looked at the areas we need to work on most. Saturday will provide even more useful information."
Quite a few West supporters are promising to make the trip. The ground is in Lancaster itself and is in Powderhouse Lane.
