Well Done West 3rds

After having a couple of days to calm down after a miserable Saturday, I would like to congratualte West 3rd team on their victory.

I for one thought that the game was a typical hard fought derby match, which could have gone either way. We made a few wrong decisions during the game (1st half kick infront of the posts at 0 - 3 down), but hey-ho thats 3rd team rugby for you.

Unfortunately, there must be a winner and a loser in games like these and feelings are running so high that occassionally things do boil over a little bit, a couple of unsavoury events marred the game for me including an alledged 'biting and somebody spitting in someones face'.

I understand it may have looked like Ste Clayton was picking on a young lad, however, it would take a special type of man not to react to being spat at, and I for one could not say that I would not have retaliated aswell.

However, even though these incidents, took a bit of the shine of the game, I thought the game was good to watch and play in and I look forward to meeting your lads again sometime during the season, where hoepfully we will take our chances and gain revenge.

Regards
Finbar

Well said Finbar, the game was played in good spirit and while aligations may have a rissen buring the game I can say that I never witnessed anthing untowards.

Its always nice to win. But taking part and just enjoying the game is what it is all about.

Hope to see you all on the return fixture at our place and good luck for the rest of the season.

Charlie

I hope these allegations of biting and spitting are being taken seriously. If someone has done this then can I suggest that either the coaches or his teammates take him to one side and have a quiet word.
It is not acceptable.

I wondered about that ... if this is true, it's a case for some unofficial justice, I would have thought.

On the other hand didnt see any one spitting and the 'apparent' bite mark was to the inside of the props left hand-which may /could have well been done by his self.

Make of that what you will but if some one had bitten me they wouldnt have any teeth left to do it again.

There was no big who har after this apparent action so ....................

Think this is getting blown out of all proportion

These are serious allegations, and people should not make them if they are not sure they are on solid ground. They most certainly shouldn't make them in jest.
Inter-club banter is one thing, accusations of spitting and biting are quite another.

do you really think i would bite my own arm. Get real you tool. Things happen in the heat of the battle and thats that. But do not say things as stupid as that. For the record it was the right wrist.

No place in Rugby for biting or spiting in any way shape or form.

AQ, that's almost like an admission of guilt!

Were you there?
Were you playing?

No accusations during the game!
No accusations after the game!

But, low and behold accusations appear well after the event!
Sour grapes or just some poison called Finbar & co.?

Then folks pick it up and take it as gospel!
Bollox!

Grow up!
Did it really happen or is it all hear say by a few upset in defeat?

It was a fair, hard played game with the odd heated moment, the usual derby.

Nuff said.
Time to button it and move on :-)

Just to put the record straight here, everyone knows I like to try to wind up you Westies and get you biting, I take that as a bit of fun associated with a strong rivalry between the two clubs.

As I stated the better team on the day won however, these incidents did happen. I did not witness the bite incident however Kevin Dunn had a bite mark on the inside of his arm and reported in to the referee who called the West captain over to talk about the issue.

Now for the 2nd incident, a fracas started in the West dead ball area with Ste Clayton throwing a few haymakers at a West player. We all laughed and joked about it in the changing room after the game due to the fact that no punches seem to have landed. It was then that it emerged that somebody had spat in his face causing him to loose his cool and throw his fists about.

I have known Kev for nearly 20 years and have no reason to doubt him, Ste Clayton I have only known for about 2 years but have played against him when he played for West for a lot longer, once again I have no reason to doubt what he has said.

So very sorry no sour grapes or stirring here it seems these incidents happend. If it turns out I am wrong I will immediately remove these accusations and say sorry.

Regards
Finbar

last week was a hardgame i for one thought we would lose. The 2 inncidents everyone are moaning about ,the fight with blockhead and our baby faced assassin was nothing but if he did spit at him, bit harsh!! but then again he is a teacher now :) and to behonest by looking at the excellent pictures on the rovers site i think ste will be embarrassed enough by his fighting skills. As for the biting it was i, i must admit but as finbar said i have known kev also for over twenty years now and it was a simple case of kev and i mucking about in the scrum to which he got the last laugh by tellin the ref someone had bit him but he didnt kno who haha hats off to you mr dunn pure genius u won a penalty but we won the war. look forward to seeing you up our place lads.

Is the last statement for real !

Has a west player just admitted he bit someone and his team mates spat at oppossing players!

For the sake of rugby, please tell me this is a wind up.

If that statement is true - West, you have issues, you need to take action, but most of all you should be ashamed.

As a long time servant to the great game we call rugby i have never read so much tosh this thread contains. This game is now a week ago, it was for me as an ex westie and a bit long in the tooth a joy to play in, for one i was playing against and along side my good friends.
Please stop all this so called whined up banter between two good town clubs, the game doesnt need this.

Has anyone actually thought to ask the young ones what actually happened? As the dad of one of them (not the one involved with the fighting/spitting incident) I had a worth both with my son and the others. What actually happened was the rovers player objected to being knocked backwards in a maul, questioned why that had happened and got I believe the term is 'tangoed' by the youngster. in hindsight he says this was a mistake. This is what he took exception to and started the fighting fracas.
I for one enjoyed the game and for the most part it was played in great spirit.
Rather than these accusations flying about surely it is far better to get to the truth so we can stop anymore trouble.

the best thing is that thread started as rovers saying well done to west. Then all kinds of rubbish has started. Dovey there is no hard felling on my part and as you say i was not pointing any fingers. Its about time this was laid to rest . See you for a pint later in the season Kev Dunn
