With a few exeptions, squad is a bit of a joke to me, SCH highlights a little of the joke in his last post! Not the 1 part of the ratio I might add

Presumably players till have to put themselves forward for selection?

Not sure on that WPA, one would think over the course of a season that "the selectors" would have viewed a few games in the region in order to establish the highest calibre of player?

Think is it up to the clubs to ask their players if they want to be considered for the County and then attend County training.
Don't believe that "selectors" actually watch games to pick out players.
Those days are long gone, since the County Championship is now worthless ... blame the professional game!!

I can see that all of the comments here are very negative - really gets on my nerves because the people making the comments know nothing about what goes on.

Has anyone ever thought about the players who do make themselves available and do enjoy playing for Durham? It maybe worthless to some (generally those who have never tried it), to others it may not.

I am not sure what is so bad about playing rugby with lads that you often play against and building a decent team spirit in 3/4 weeks. It is a decent level and actually teaches you a bit.

Isn't that what rugby is all about?

Support for Durham would also be a nice change as (believe it or not) there is a lot of effort put into running the team.

Selectors do watch games. I agree the system is not perfect but which rugby set up is?

End of rant

Andrew I wasn't having a go I can assure you. In my day there was no greater honour than wearing the maroon. I am sure you feel the same way and being County Captain is a massive honour.

I was just wiondering why so few West player seem to be involved in County games and even games like the Help the Heroes?

I spoke to a Horden RFC committee member and they said they have accepted an offer from a developer and have sold the club house and the rugby lads will be getting changed in the cricket club.

FACT. !!!!
