Does anyone else find this stream of coaching analysis from Rovers patronising?
On the day a lot of West players were below par, as those of us who watch them every week will know. Yet we could still easily have won the game.
Dan Boatman has been excellent in recent weeks but was very quiet as was the whole of the front row. Robinson has been superb in the line-outs in league games, as well as mobile around the park, but wasn't on Boxing Day. The backs were hastily reshuffled because of injury and absences and so were not their usual selves.
This may all be because we didn't prepare very well and the mention that players were involved in a morning game suggests this may well be the case.
However, I am not losing any sleep over the rest of the season as I am sure the result will have kicked any complacency out of the window.
I also do not own a deck chair.

Well said WPA - First of all - Well Done Rovers for earning the bragging rights for the next 12 months, but please lets not get carried away.

Even the most die-hard supporters must agree, the standard of rugby played by both sides was apalling.

There is some consolation for West in knowing this was way, way below their normal standard and hopefully a one off.

I only hope the same can be said of Rovers and that some of the comments I've heard and read, like "They played well as a team" "Rovers where up for this game"" Rovers played out of their skins" have only been said in the exicitement of winning the game and not a true reflection of their normal standard.

As a social event, it was an excellent day

All the very best to the rugby fraternity for the coming year

Maybe Rovers did want it more, I don't know but as far as "rovers played well as a team " or "played out of their skins" - that's a load of rubbish. Both teams were very poor

Maybe many Rovers found the pre-game banter or "The Stags would beat Rovers" patronising?

I agree both teams were poor, Rovers looked bad because West tried to spoil everything and got penalised for it heavily. As a result Rovers found it hard to get any sort of continuity going and looked below par.

I don't watch West week in week out and would hope that Boxing Day was a poor performance, otherwise it doesn't say much about the standard of rugby in North 1.

Watching the game I don't think that Rovers wanted it more than West but they were better disciplined (despite the yellow cards, which were both harsh and on the heels of West offences) and seemed able to improvise better when they couldn't establish a pattern of play.

Internet Explorer FRLE wouldn't be found dead using it, got rid of it years ago due to all the bugs it had, hasn't improved much since. Oh! I just love Micro Soft software????????

I think that people (including FRLE) are maybe romanticisng the rovers performance - they never created anything that looked like scoring a try, their try being a solo effort. Now maybe either of the foreman's might have got another one like that - but the team certainly weren't creating anything. Neither were west. You kicked more penalties than us, because we gave away a lot (rightly or wrongly) - that's the reason for the result.

At the end of the day the cod heads would be nothing without Andrew and Gareth Forman. FACT. Everyone involved in rugby knows it, but if Rovers can get Andrew a better job at the Power Station then what can we do!! Life goes on!!!! ATB.

every team has its star players. i dare say we would have a few less victories without dicko this season (thats not you andrew sorry! ha). it doesn't mean to say that either team is not a good side without those 'star' players!
it is a shame we couldn't sign andrew foreman though especially with the injuries to dave and now dash (i believe dash is actually ok now!)

Cookie,

I hope your posting was a result of having partaken of too much sherry, otherwise you could be acussed of talking out of your 'arris.

Rovers enjoyed most of their success before the Foremans came to the club.

There is depth in each of the positions occupied by the Foremans and to suggest that they are the reason the team is playing well is an insult to the other 20 odd lads in the squad.

The Foremans would have no ball without the forwards, Rovers would have kicked far less points this season without Sainty.

Rover 2009 - How is there depth in your backs you fool when you had to play an unregistered player over your own 2nd / 3rd team players

Andrew Arnell, Paul Arnell, Nick Corrigan, Tony DaSilva, Daz Fawcett, Mark Westhorpe, Paul Kirton, Simon Rutherford, Ian Mulvihill, Michael Railton, Steven Railton, Dylan Thomas to name a few.

I also hear Fozzy has signed from Billingham.

Just because there was a lack of players on Boxing Day does not mean there was a general lack of players.

I just want to know what the problem with playing an unregistered player is in a friendly?

Rovers have the depth required to replace any member of their back line with someone who will do the job well enough should the need arise, ergo they are not nothing without the Foremans.

Maybe the inclusion of Gav was a hope at getting him to sign for them? If so i would understand it entirely. As far as i can gather he is happy at mowden though. I think he has been a loss to us this season even though Dicko has been our best player in Gavs old position. However, i believe Gav could have been very usefull in other positions, which is one of the resons he left us!
