Sad News At Rovers

FOUND THIS ON THE SKYNEWS WEB SITE.

During the recent demolition of the Steetley Magnesite a serious incident occurred and the iconic chimney fell the wrong way and it landed on Hartlepool Rovers Rugby Club. The chimney decimated the entire club house and the executive concrete standing area. Estimates show that that it may have caused about 17 quid worth of damage.

Luckily several 3rd team players who were in the building at the time where unhurt. They had just finished an 18 minute training session which included arm wrestling and a round of domino’s followed by a cooling down period which involved eating pork pies washed down with copious amounts of full sugar Pepsi Cola when the disaster occurred

Unfortunately a Datsun Cherry and a Ford Orion MKII belonging to the players was damaged beyond repair. Neither car was insured but luckily Mad Billy Fishtail, the local rag and bone-man, will give them a full refund.

Fortunately no members of the public where injured as the incident occurred on a normal working day and luckily all the local residents were still in bed.

No one from Rovers is available for comment at this stage.

On the light side, dont scare me like that.........

Having just returned from work in Germany, I read your message and panicked but to my relief I found that our club was still standing, all bricks and morter.

I was thinking though what a terrible tragedy it would be if all that genuine rugby history was lost, you know, like the fact the Rovers:-

Where the 1st ream to play the Barbarians (program in the club)
Where played the NZ Moari's and Allblacks (progammes in the club)
Record Durham County Cup Winners
Programs in the new re-furbished lounge from as far back as 1891
RF Oakes memoribilia from when Rovers had 3 club members on the 6 man England Selection committee

I could go on but I wont.........however, I did notice that when driving home I was passing Brierton Lane, where has your club 'gone' there seemed to be a housing development on it, but the biggest shock was when I continued along Catcote road I notice a rather ramshackle looking selection on portacabins with your flag flying above it...........surely not.

People in glass houses Mr 'on-the-light-side shouldn't throw stones.

Finbar

Wasn't the team that played New Zealand a combined West and Rovers?

Very well put Finbar!!! The good thing about the cabins is we can swap them about if needed to make other great shapes. A bit like Lego i suppose

Finbar - nice lap dancing club plus you forgot to mention you beat Wallsend 2nd team 89 - 0 and that you now play in a league which has women refs.

Now, now boys this is far too easy, I didnt even try there........

You are right, you do play in a better league than us and are favourites for the boxing day game. However, clever individuals on this site such as on-the-light-side is under some illusion that you are still a top division club.

Now I am quite happy at my rugby club and take exception from a 'club' that uses portacabins saying that our place is a dump.
I tell you what if you ask nicely, we might rent you some land such as the land behind the clubhouse or the land up to the embankments or the land over West View Road that we own and you can build a club house of your own.

But this time dont bring in a building company, use all the money he gives you and then have to sell up again.

Once again people in glass houses.

Finbar
