Third teamer

All bar one of the players who came on against rovers 3rd's were and still are regular Yarm 2nd Team players

That week Yarm had 4-5 regular first team players unavailable so quite rightly the second team players were moved up. So when the 1st team game was called off. It was mostly the second team (including the regular second team captain who came on)

Oldge

Where on the tvl website does it say that the teams will only play each other twice.

Rule 7 says "Teams shall endeavour to play 2 fixtures (Home and Away) against each team in their league". it does not say it is limited to only 2 games.

In fact last season Yarm played Middlesborough at least 3 times that I am aware of, all three of which were league games,

At least you have put forward some kind of an explanation. Although I'm not sure how they can be considered second teamers if they were by definition in that weeks first team

I still cant help thinking that if you'd have been winning the game it wouldn't have happened - especialy in light of your First's reluctance to play against BBOB.

I hope you can field your regular second team in the reverse fixture so that we might get a better measure of the two teams and a decent game.

Honestbob
If you click on 'MISSION' on the tvl website then scroll down to 'CHANGING RULES' the second paragraph mentions it!
On another note i really think this ringers debate is quite pointless! It comes about every year and we hear one club claiming they have played a load of 1st teamers and the accused club give explanations about their team selection. On saturday i played against Boro 2nd team for West 3rd team. After the game some of our lads said things like 'that was half of their 1st team!' I was quick to point out that it was a load of crap as i've heard it all before. Boro 1st team did not have a game so people jump to ridiculous conclusios even before kick off! It is my understanding that fringe 1st team players did play against us in exactly the same way our stags did agaist Mowden! And you can bet your life that at Mowden this week the talk was of how west fielded 'half the 1st team'. Again, a load of crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have all been accused of this at sometime or another over the years so lets just get on with it!
Maybe an official from Ams and yarm should speak before the chat on here causes bad blood!

Just with regards to games I was under the impression that teams can play each other as many times as they want in TVSL but it two to count. These don't need to be that same two.

e.g. Play the same team four times that season record two wins and two loses. You could count your two wins but so could the other team.

Oldge

I stand corrected regards the game, and I also agree with the ringer debate. It has been going on for as long as I have played Snr Rugby, (Nearly 20 Years) and no doubt it will continue long after I finally hung up my boots

In reply to Foot Knack Full Back.........

what happens is, if there were any aggrieved 2nd teamers from Yarm, they go to TDSOB and play for them but cos their game gets called off they end up playing for Ams so it's Yarm v Yarm so it doesn't matter which team wins then cos it still goes down as a Yarm win.....simple init?

so what's all the fuss about????????? :_):_)

When the Leagues was in either its first or second season Redcar 3rd's where top and Acklam Talbots second with only 2 weeks to go. Acklam arranged 2 midweek fixtures against a team they had already played and beaten twice that season (Yarm as it happens) to claim the League. This was in the days before a limit was set on how many times you could play the same team in the league.

We felt cheated and have never taken the competition seriously since. If other clubs need to use such tactics to win what is a social league then good luck to them, it certainly is not in the spirit of the game.

Now had Acklam contacted us and said something along the lines of "hey would you like to play us midweek for the honour of winning the league", or possibly "Hey we would like to win this league so we are going to arrange a couple of midweek games. We are letting you know so you have the chance to do the same", then we would have been happy to accept this, but alas no. The rules did not prevent this and neither it would seem do morales.

It would appear that Yarm learnt for Acklam and have followed there example.

On a related subject a couple of seasons back Yarm put out a Scottish international in their 2nds against Redcar 3rds, but this was only to compliment the 3 or 4 1st teamsers already playing. I guess they will do anything for a win no matter what the level.

Andy (love spuds) you are right the Yarm team you played at your place has had 8 changes. It was a far weaker team than the one that beat Seaton 2nds 97-13 LAST week. Saturday
(we started with only two 1st teamers and finshed the game with one, the club captain who is coming back from injury)
To be fair your team was far weaker too.
Our club only has two teams and 39 active players and a few coffin dodgers that help out time to time bless them.
Just checked, 26 of them so far this season have played for our 1st team.
Does this mean we should just put out a first team and thats it?
For the record my generation of players Over 35's could not understand why my club Yarm didn't play BBOB in a friendly, that meant 30 plus guys didn't get a game of rugby which its all about. I asked the question and the replies why we didn't play were weak. (no ref, a hard game next week) You would tihnk we were in National 3 not D&N 3. Shame on our 1st team that day.
Rover III, game agree again I would be lying if the 2-3 guys that came back from BBOB changed the result, but one of them was our 2nd team captain who got called up at short notice.
This 1st teamer stuff, i think I have covered this for Yarm above.
Some clubs are still luckey enough to run 4 teams so when a game one is called off from a higher game the low teams are always made stronger.
Wake up and smell the coffee guys, every club wants to win at any level from 1st - 4ths and if a decent player becomes avaialble then he is used.

TVSL spirit, this is important to us we play to win as everyone but we have fun afterwards, Amt's also want this I think. Yes there are other clubs which come to mind that in the past have done everything you can imagine to win the league.
You know who they are and Yarm isn't one of them. I think the Redcar guy might of just mentioned one of them....
But as I understand it this cant happen now the rules have been changed in 2007 hence diiferent teams in with a chance.
According to your own guys and the TDSOB web site you use between 4-8 of them every week at the moment. This is not officially in the spirit of the TVSL, hence your home win, if you want to split hairs. I dont. I just want to play a game I love as long as I can and as many times as I can. Not sure I will be playing as long as Graham.
Just hope if we play you again that TDSOB get a front row out.
I do hope they do get a front row out its sad to see them with -2pts every week. They can play uncontested scrums from the ko, they lose but dont get -2pts.
Wish we had a message board, its a good laugh.
Keep it up.
Thats it from me on these points.

REDCAR MAN.......

I agree with many of your comments and Glad you mentioned Acklam.
The did this for years, they bent and broke all the rules in the book and thats why the didn't win last year. Mike who runs the site does it very well and should be praised.
A team can only play anothe team twice as a league game. They still can play each other as many times as they like in the season.
Usually its the first two times they play unless agreed by them before the game.
Yarm are in no way copying Acklam, we play the game as its meant to be played and yes we play to win, like we will on Saturday against Your seconds. YOUR APOLOGY IS ACCEPTED
The Scottish International was a good point, but as I have already said you are in your own World if you think any club wouldn't use decent players who becomes available. I have yet to see a manager or captain say to a decent player sorry mate your to good for this level of rugby and you may advesley affect the result so sorry on your way.... Not going to happen.

Bet Redcar last season would have taken anyone if they thought it would have helped last season.
Glad to see you doing well this season.

Peter, your right thinks is all be said now, look forward to the next bit of banter.

Good luck to all clubs this weekend. Well not too much for Redcar 2nds this week as we are playing them.

Just to confirm yes its true a Yarm international has played for our 2nds three times I think, its about his level. He played in the World cup quater final one weekend and for Yarm the next. I know which he found harder.
