Ref,
Don't bite! Whatever happened on that day, and I think I know what it was, is very important to Broken Army. However, it was just another incident in the eighty minutes on that day years ago. I'm sure that he feels that you are responsible for the incidents, and not the perpetrators.
As you've already noted, it isn't the referee that stamps on or punches an opponent.
Regarding your comment on experience and level of game. It was what it was, and at that level not all matches are refereed by a qualified referee. As such, you don't need to make any excuses. That said, there are enough "old hands" playing at that level. They should quickly realise how the referee is controlling the game, or not, and take care of the situation. For me, that was always the benefit of having the mix of youth and experience in those games. The "old hands" certainly helped me to referee! All joking asside, the after match pint is always a good learning opportunity.
It's probably best to forget the past, and get on with the future. So I'll wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year from the northern wastes of Aberdeen.
