Darkness

After reading that the second half of the Stags game was played in darkness, I was wondering if there are any plans in the pipe to erect some floodlights at brinkburn? How much would they cost (presuming they don't get stolen during construction)? Also, where does the club stand with regards to building things on 6FC land, planning permission etc?

It wasn't darkness it was gloom brought on by the weather. Could happen at any time of the year.
Floodlights cost about £10k and doubtless would need planning permission. The RFU were giving out grants for them at one time but they are not at the top of our list of priorities at the moment.

We at Sunderland have received the ok for a grant from the RFU for floodlights but the cost is a staggering £49,000. We have £29,000 from the RFU and have pledges from sponsors for the balance. The big stumbling block is planning permission. We are in a conservation area and have had one application turned down. Another is in for consideration but the noises from the Council ( who know apparently what is best for the development of rugby and giving youngsters a chance to play sport ! ) are not good. I wouldnt think you would have a problem with planning though ?

£50k! Don't think we will be troubling the Planners with that one for some time!

Dont think it work like that but if it did they could give us a grant for our new stand.

planning objections for floodlights generally centre around light pollution of nearby residences and late night noise by people using the facility. This can be helped by restricting their use eg not after 9pm. bit of useless info bearing in mind the cost!

Started a good thread haven't I! So here is a bit more to chew on...

Assuming (prematurely), that West seal promotion this season to North 1, takings should increase, without a large increase in costs as the travel distance for away games wouldn't increase much, if at all.

If the league restructuring goes ahead, assuming West go in to the new 4th tier, 2 extra games per season, against bigger, more local clubs may make a big financial difference to West, allowing for the improvement of facilities for the team and the fans.

Anyone disagree/ have anything to add?

Thanks for the info Moon.

On second thoughts why doesn't West just hire you to stand at the corner of the pitch and allow the natural Moonshine flood the training paddock!

Are you interested?

Mr Campbell. There are a hundred and one other financial considerations involved in running the club
We do have floodlights which are adequate for training and well used. There is little sense in spending thousands on lights for the main pitch just to kick off 45 minutes later on four or five games each season - specially when we have other bills to pay..

on of them:- thanks for the offer of employment, if the offer were to extend to othe family members you could have the pitch lit up like blackpool!

When they not been nicked you mean. How can you have proper stands when 1 has no roof and should be condemned, the other aint that good. As for the clubhouse, the beer is terrible. Come on SDH, give your gills a shake and admit you are second best at everything!!!

sch you may have decent floodlights but they are no use if they only get used to dry the pitch out
