If you mean Thorn, he's playing regularly.
Thanks for asking.

Yes he's playing a lot and playing very well. Hope the lad is enjoying his rugby and the club.

the foreman's save roy kelly a lot of typing don't they - just copy the previous quotes such as "wanted to have a crack at national league rugby", "playing on the wing but wanted to play scrum half" and change the names and dates and you're done!

SCH,

Without wanting to appear like I'm:
a) rising to the bait
b) a nerd for trawling through past posts

The following should answer your question regarding Rob Thorn:

First Team Rugby 2007 - 2008
Author: Robert Thorn
Date: 29-06-07 13:27

Hello West Hartlepool;

I currently work for British energy and I have been moved to work at Hartlepool Power station and I would like to play rugby for Wests.

I can play outside centre or Wing but my main position is Fulback and I have played for Vale of the Lune and Sandal RUFC (which time I have played against you a few times).

Could somebody please contact me, when pre-season training starts.

Hardly sounds like he was lured by the big bucks does it?

Money 'aint everything you know.

It's great when good players come to a good club to play good rugby;
it's even better when they are sufficient enough reasons to want to do so.

More hilier than thou garbage from West.

It wasn't that long ago that you had a million and one antipodeans driving round in Range Rovers - and an even shorter time since a certain Westie was phoning another Forman offering to match whatever Rovers were going to pay him.

How soon you seem to forget.

I think it will take more than 1 player returning to change Rovers fortunes.

Roverite are now saying when rovers had money and not on the bones of there bots you used to pay players?

Mr Spoon - perhaps you read something more into my posts than intended - i assure you they are not as cryptic as they appear. I really do not know where you've got that from.

Mr Quinn - the point I am making is that while we all know the peril of paying players, its a neccessary evil at certain levels of the game. Its easy for west to criticise when you've got a team full of young lads but what about when they all get offered money to step up a level? Myers has already gone and I'm sure a few will get the chance in the future. It's naive to think a young lad will turn down £100 a week because of his loyalty to his club. On that basis you may rethink your supposed oppositin to payment of players.

I also note that no one has seen fit to deny the offer made to a soon to be Rovers player to join West instead.

Roverite, why don't you name the Gent/lady who made the offer for the soon to be Rover and then he/she can deny it??? myself just being a supporter has not heard the rumour.:-!

Roverite

Agreed - in the future some of our 1st team / Stags / AMS / Juniors will get £100 offers by the so called "better / richer" clubs and thats the unfortunate price we pay for a fantastic youth policy. With the numbers of the young quality players coming through the ranks we have enough sustainability to support all 3 senior teams in years to come.

On The Lash - I very much hope you are right and the town has a great rugby future in general. Having seen some of the young players at Rover the fuftre seems bright fo us as well.

Headsupwestie - I'm afraid I don't know the identitiy of the west patron involved but I have it on very good authority that it happened. I'm not criticising anyone mind - I just think it should be noted by some of the posters who seem to rejoice in West being a purely amateur club.

roverite - you're missing the point. there's nothing wrong with paying players if you want to - I juct can't understand why rovers deny that they do it!

Roverite, crossed wires here me thinks as what you say i was sort of agreeing with. My only point was/ is that if an club/ sponsor is paying a player, why try to deny the fact
cheers
