For the record I don't think the Craig Lee thing got anywhere near Board level, or was even widely discussed, although I gather Dave Stubbs did talk to him.

"Because Craig can play"

"Rovers are not paying their players"

??

He's playing for free but getting paid for coaching. How's that?

No one should be paid, it spoils the game and can and has wreck clubs!

players/coaches/player-coaches??
till/sponsors???

rovers can use any combination of the above funds to pay any combination of the above people without any complaint from me. i just want to know why Robok and R&O seem to think its morally different

Mikeyboy is wrong in his suggestion that Rovers are the only clubs in town paying money.

Its clear that if the likes of Coulson, Taylor, Palmer and Brown leave Darlo for Old Boys, without any disrespect to Old Boys, they are not going to that level for the standard of rugby.

I fail to see how rovers paying a lad who is going to coach is any different from West paying Stubbs or Stabler for coaching. Its not as if Craig Lee is 21 and has been signed only for his playing ability.

Wonder how westgarth feels having Lewe brought in. Think I know who will be Rovers coach next season.

rovers return - good point about old boys, i'm probably wrong about rovers being the only ones doing it.

"I fail to see how rovers paying a lad who is going to coach is any different from West paying Stubbs or Stabler for coaching. "

Its not, and I haven't got a problem with it. Its your fans who have the problem with it - hence the desperation to deny it.

You are all very correct in that Hartlepool RFC have the money to pay players and this is through brilliant management by the Committee

This debate will go on and on as everybody is entitled to his or her own opinion.

I will say this. Re Roy Kellys quote “Of course Craig Lee is being paid, he’s a professional”. I would have thought semi-professional would be a better description.

Most of these lads moved on for whatever reasons, but from memory the general consensus was to play at the highest level of rugby available to them. If a player has aspirations of playing at the highest levels that, in my opinion, is to be commended. If as a consequence of this they ended up receiving some sort of financial assistance/compensation for their efforts and commitment all well and good.

This cannot now be the case, as it would appear that it is the remuneration package that is driving the choice of club not the level of rugby that is being played.

In an ideal world it would have been better if the players and the club could have come to some sort of compromise at least till the end of the season.

Again this is just my humble opinion....:-|

Beach Banks,

What you think rarely has any resemblance on what happens in the real world though does it?

Nice to know you have an opinion on our new signings and not the goings on..or rather goings on that never got chance to go on on Saturday eh?
