Stan the Camel,

That bald guy from Durham City probably was Bob Anderson (who also played for Gosforth in their successful cup sides)

:-)

Are we quite certain that the players from the University are not local lads? Contrary to popular belief the University does attract local north east students. if they cannot represent a club due to University commitments they will be listed as playing for the University. Should a student from Durham who was brought up in Durham be disallowed from playing simply because he hasn't time to play for a local club.

Also, what if those students subsequently stay in the area and go on to play for local clubs after they graduate. The love of the county is not necessarily a birth right.

Sorry, I'm more of an observer on this board than a regular contributer but I feel the university gets a lot of stick, most of it unfairly.

We should support those who pull on the Durham County jersey. I do not see the Irish provinces only supporting those players born in the province when Munster or Leinster take the field.

Cheers Andy - Bob Anderson was the man - remember him well, always looked the part. No fair point cp. But let us take Rovers U15s (edited: meant the U14s) as an example. They have a good set of lads and if they stay together then Rovers could have a few good players coming through in the next few years. There is no doubt that a few of them playing County rugby would benefit their club and all the years of hard work, Sunday morning training in all weathers etc. would be well worth it. Why should they be denied a place in a Durham team? What did Will Grenwood put back into the Durham RFU? It is nothing personal - I was a student myself, just we are a small county and I think we should spend our resources on those most likely to stay loyal. Simply put - take out the University boys and the three local lads get who were reserves and travelling reserves get a chance to pull onthe Durham shirt and play at a higher level and go back to their clubs with that experience.

And welcome on Board Cpsmithy! Your level of rugby knowledge may be a handicap as there are many clueless doyles on here to ruin a good debate - Quinny and HBL being the names to watch out for, though sadly R&O and Robok are sulking.....

Cheers for the 'nice' comment Stan the Camel! Oh by the way, if you did your homework you would have realised Rovers do not have an U15's team.
Try to get all your fact right before having a go at me.....thanks

Well who did I watch on Boxing Day then Mr. Q? I thought it was West vs Rovers U15s. Apologies. I WAS there but clearly am a clueless doyle!

Was that close to a bite:oD

Edited: Yes I am a totally clueless doyle it was the U14s I saw on Boxing Day. Still - looked a good set of lads for the future and my point still remains on the original point of the thread. I only see two games a year and I can't even remember one of them.
