After reading all the hype before the game, I was at the match and having read the match reports on this site and in several papers, I must applaud Roy Kelly for being the only one to write it as it was. I could see the incident at the end of the game and no way was that a shoulder charge. Roy was right to say he ran in and joined the punch up with a "punch of Steve Molitor" proportions. Davies looks about 16/17 stone and to run in and blindside someone like that was aweful.
I was stood not far from one of the west coaches and as soon as it happenened one of the players(who i will not id) ran over and using strong language questioned why the idiot was on the pitch and to get him off and be no part of the team. To me it speaks volumes when a team mate has that opinion.
By the way, apart from the 2 who threw cheap shots I thought it was a hard, physical but fair game up front.

I don't think anyone is disputing chocky's red card. I was a long way from the incident and saw him run into the crowd of players. I couldn't see what he did when he got there but obviously you can't expect to run from a distance to join a fight and not get punished.

As mikey boy has said - neither he or Pete had a clear view of the incident - and you can't write what you can't see.

Think it needs to be put to bed for the time being anyway - the refs report is back and the hearing date is set.

No-one is doing any party any favours by assuming what went on. :-|

R&O. It may be useful for you to know that the Echo get their match report info from this site as they don't have the manpower to go to every game. So quoting them as the authority on every incident at Brinkburn is more than a little dangerous.

I write it as I see it as I'm sure Pedro does, he's an excellent, honest reporter.

I did not see what this mystery off-the-field person did or didn't do, so did not mention it.

DP, you are night, people should not believe what they read in newspapers

Very commendable Roy. I am sure you did the same for the Rovers bottle throwing and Referee pushing game, the recent unsavoury incidents and abuse at the Horden v Rovers game, as well as the pitched battle between two of our town clubs a fortnight ago which is the talk of the town but which has never been mentioned in the Mail.
Seems to be very selective reporting and a very emotive description of the Davies incident which will I trust will not unduly influence the discipilinary panel. This is not to condone what Davies did. He deserves a ban.

If I wrote on something I did not see, eg the alleged pitch battle, then that would be sensationalism. The incident was mentioned by the way in the Mail on the Monday.

I wrote the Davies sending off as I saw it and I don't think I got it wrong.

I am sure the disciplinary panel will act on the referee's report and any mitigation from Andrew Davies rather than what the Hartlepool Mail printed.

I was on the hedge side of the pitch close to the incident and your descriptioin of the blow was way over the top. Where were you standing?
That is not to defend the perperator in any way I am just looking for consistency. I wish I had the back issue of the Mail to see how you reported Power's headbutt.
I am also waiting for DP to give his video evidence.

'Ow Do DP

To draw a line under my contributions to what is a thread running away with itself........

On the Echo aspect, I clearly should have realised that that paper's resources do not stretch beyond the two Darlington clubs. I get the feeling that Rovers or West could be playing the All Blacks and the Echo would still cover Mowden or Darlington v whoever instead.......

On the general reporting topic, I have to say, and speaking as a scribe myself, it is a pretty thankless task. It's one thing it being your livelihood and getting a roasting but another when people have a pop when it isn't and you're doing it for the good of your club. Perhaps your good self, El Pedalo and I should form a splinter group?

I don't like the tone of your comment WPA.

I saw the Andrew Davies incident quite clearly.

I was not at the game in which Mark Power was sent off but I would not have shied out of reporting on it.

Just on the general reporting theme, I have to say that Pedro, Picken, Rover & Out probably provide the best three reports on any website.

If you read some sites, you'd think there was only one team on the field. Well done you chaps for your stuff, there is balance from you fellas

OK Roy I accept you can only be at one game at a time and have to rely on others to cover every game in Hartlepool area. I still disgree with the way you described the Davies incident.

Tell you what, I'll ask Dave if I can borrow the video and I'll watch it again and if I'm in any way wrong I'll apologise
