I thought that the days of this type of cry-off were well behind us. Obviously not.

Do you think they would have done the same if it had been a league match? a second team made up of 16/17 year olds. Dont think so.
Just not on, compensation should be paid, loss of bar takings, staff to be paid, catering thats been bought in, let alone if the match had sponsors. just a cop out because they probably couldn't field their strongest team!
In my opinion Tyldesley should be penalised and banned from future cup competitions.
P.S. Do you think it would have made a differance had they been drawn at home!

They will miss out on the £500 you get for going out in the first round and will not be eligible for next years cup.

Luckily our bar staff are all volunteers and are looking forward to a well earned day off (before the big day on Sunday ;-)) so that hasn't been a problem but as you said the loss of bar takings and the disruption to Sponsors is something we just have to live with.

Still we're through to the next round of the cup, we can rest some of the lads who have knocks and can go to Sheffield next Saturday all refreshed!

ps FRLE I'm not even replying to that one - you know me too well!

Am i old fashioned in thinking that you should fulfill your fixtures, regardless of the standard of the team you can put out?

I remember with affection driving to one of our away games a couple of years back when i bumped into a prop from our fourth team in the service station on the Manchester ring road; I remarked upon the coincidence and he looked at me blankly before explaining he had been drafted into the 1st Team due to injury crisis. We turned up with a mixture of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th teamers and got a whooping. But WE STILL TURNED UP!!!!!

I believe it is incumbent on clubs to field a side in competitions and take a beating if that is the case! There are too few opportunities for coaches to blood youngsters and this would have been a good experience for their 17 year olds. I'm sure I'm not alone in having started playing 1st team rugby as soon as I turned 17; stick them in and see whether they sink or swim.

Shame on you Tyldsley!

here here wonderfish, too many teams are afraid of defeat. there is far more disgrace in not fulfuilling a fixture than getting a caneing. yes getting whopped by a bigger better team is not fun, but it should inspire people to think what if i could get that good get that fit, it builds character in people and it is becoming far to a common episode in rugby at this level.

i join in the shame on tyldsley rufc.

the thing is our team wouldn't have been much older.

Our back 3 are only 20, 18 & 17, centres are 21 & 20, fly half 22.

As for the forwards with Nogger, Anth, Tom & Danny amongst some of our older heads :oP:oP the average age of the forwards would be 23.
