Very contradicting SCH!! Think of all the young lads who then won't get a game for Rovers, especially as Mr Westgarth seems intent on getting the young lads some experience this year - Dring, Travis, Grazier and Humble must be wondering what its all about!

You do have a point though. Maybe it should be limited to 2 foreigners but what would we class as foreign (Ireland would be a talking point)? and this would leave this league at an unfair advantage unless the rule was carried out throughout the Rugby pyramid.

You couldn't do it, i believe, because of the Kolpak ruling which basically permits any player from countries with a history of trading links with the uk (ie everybody) the right to play.

It wasn't that long ago there was a limit of 2 unless they were pros and could satisfy work permit regulations. I remember we had three aussies and one of them, a good scrumhalf spent a year in our seconds despite being the best scrumhalf at the club.

plus most Aussie & Kiwis have British Ancestry and can apply for dual nationality.

Mike Brewer could have effectively played for England!

I have no problem with the foreigners, as long as they improve the teams ie are not bog standard and just taking up a place; they need to be superior to what is already there.

Our foreigners are tourists, combining playing rugby with a year abroad working and I think that is appropriate at N2E level, I believe paying foreigners or anyone at our level is folly.

I think SCH is saying that he only wants Rovers to have two New Zealanders because getting four is not fair on the lads who will lose their places. Think he is right for once :-O:-O:-O:-O:-O:-O

Kolpak doesn't cover NZ and Aussies but dores cover South Africa, Tonga, Samoa and Fiji. Which is handy considering almost a 3rd of our colts are South African.

HBL,

I'll be interested in seeing how you guys do down at Dore Moor on Saturday.
