RF Oakes Memorial Match

Just thought I'd let you know your lads played well for the Oakes' side this afternoon.

Tim Sawyer had a cracking game, just goes to show what he can do when he concentrates on playing instead of refereeing!

Danny 'Wigwam' Weegram played well but was kept within check by his opposite numbers and the Rovers defence. It would have been interesting to have seen Mary Lambert on the other wing but he was missing as was Shirley Temple Myers.

The other Westies, Anth Carr, James Masshedar, Jonathan Norris and Dave Garside had their moments but Phil Gilbraith sadly had to go off after only five minutes.

Gareth and Ben Kerr were superb, particularly Gareth who put in some good runs.

All in all a good match, a shame more weren't there to see it....maybe a Sunday start a la Saggy would have stopped the clash with Pools (although why anyone would put football ahead of rugby is beyond me) but would have broken with tradition of course.

Well, that's it for another season..........roll on September.

Glad to hear it was a good game but not sure wh you think supporters of other rugby clubs should assemble every Saturday at the end of the season to put money over Rovers bar?

You needn't have gone to the Friarage, you could have gone to Gateshead to watch Durham v Cheshire? Why stay at home watching Channel 4 racing when you could go out and watch some rugby?

If you are a rugby fan, but I suspect you aint

Alternativly WPA could just have come to watch the Oakes at Rovers and NOT put money over the bar as usual :oP

WPA

I can't follow your logic at times........you have several of your players in the Oakes side and don't want to watch them, nor do you want to pay tribute to a former giant of the game?

There were a few Westies there, however, to make up for your absence......how many games will you actually go to next season? I think we should start a sweep, my money's on three matches and that's being generous.

now then R&O,

i thought steve jones had a great game for rovers....wonder if you'll be trying to tempt him to pull the white shirt on again next season now jason white has vacated the back row...

was a decent game in patches and rovers did well to some back into at after the first 10 mins when it looked like the oakes side would run away with things.

thought dave garside played well - and considering he's only played 1st team rugby a couple of times didn't look out of place amongst a good set of forwards...

can't believe the season is over....when do next years fixtures come out!! we need something to look forward to!!

Hey Up El Pedro

Couldn't agree more about Jonesey, he had a belting game and deserved his very good try. I'm sure he would be a massive attribute to Rovers were he to join the Whites but I haven't a clue if he's going to, I didn't ask him!

I also agree that Dave Garside is very promising, I've obviously not seen him in a N2E game and that will be the place to form an opinion not in a Pyman Cup or Memorial game.

'Ow Do Monkey Boy

I don't think cheering your players on as WPA could have done is tantamount to increasing our bar takings.....as someone's already said, he didn't have to have a drink.

When our game at Driffield was frozen off a great many Rovers swelled your attendance that day and I didn't mind shelling out my three quid for it. I went to see a game of rugby and that there were no Rovers playing didn't come into it....similarly I went to the Pyman Cup Final for the same reason.

The point probably is that WPA seems to find any reason possible for not going to a game viz, Christmas shopping, too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry, too windy, it's against Rovers, Gone with the Wind's on the telly, corns playing up etc etc

Whether SCH did or didn't go to the sevens is immaterial, unless they are one and the same person.....???

I was merely replying to your comment about not many being there. Seems to me there was so many West players on both sides that it should have been held at Catcote Road. Or perhaps we should merge?

What West players played for Rovers like???

The only ones I saw were in the RF Oakes XV.

Maybe you should get down to more matches and see for yourself WPA?

Help the Aged,
