Rovers certainly seem to have lost much of the zip that made them one of the top teams in the league earlier in the season and indeed in the previous season. Not only have they been on the end of some beatings but they've also failed to convincingly put away teams that they should have thrashed.

Yep I also predicted Penrith to win the league. Agree with HBL, I think Rovers will struggle next season.

1. Driffield
2. Sheffield Tigers
3. Aspatria
4. Durham City
5. Morpeth
6. Middlesbrough
7. West
8. Horden
9. Malton & Norton
10. Hartlepool Rovers
11. Sheffield
12. Percy Park

^^My prediction^^

From what we heard at Sheffield last week their close rivals Tigers will be competitive next season. They have a backer who is determined to move through the leagues.

By the way Penrith told me that something "I" had written predicting they would struggle was pinned up on their dressing room wall and motivated them before every match. I couldn't remember it and I think they must be referring to a thread like this one where people were predicting they would struggle.. So beware the power of this site is tremendous.

I got told off one of their younger players who I played against on tour to cumbria a few years ago, that it was the Beverley coach's quote that was pinned up on the back of the door. I'll get the exact quote later....

We lost to Sheffield tigers in the cup this year; they'll be a decent outfit, even better if they recruit further.

Middlesborough will be strong I believe; otherwise you'll have to look at Morpeth, Durham City as the form horses.

Flattering to read you all bar none put Beverley down to win the play off, is there some secret respect out there for the Beavers, but you just cant come out and say it!, or will you just be pleased to see the back of us? Some say traditionaly the NE leagues are stronger than the NW as a rule, although that dident show with Penrith, who were well deserved and worthy champions. Good luck for tommorow Beverley what a fantastic day it should be.

I respect all antipodean mammals, kangaroos, koalas, wombats, kiwi birds and even the Beverley Beaver.

I have decided to take in malton's match today.

Beverley won, congrats.

Malton lost (though for the life of me I can't see how!) so beverley have gone and Old Crossleyans will be coming up.

I predict they will finish bottom of the pile; didn't seem to have much.

Wonderfish,

I'm sure that come the new season (4 long months away now....can you believe it?) every team in N2E will be vastly different from the position they are at now. Even if they don't have a change in personnel, 4 months is a long time for a coach to work with a group of players and improve them.

Mind you that assumes every club in N2E has a decent coach....I'll let you make your own minds up on that one. ;-)

I'm surprised and yet I'm not surprised about Malton & Norton.
UI watched them against Horden and they gave everything in that game and looked shattered at the end. I feared then that it may be hard to lift themselves for another 'cup final'.
Remember Old Crossleyans from a few years back and they'll be a tough side to beat I'm sure
Well done to Beverley. I'm not a fan of their style or baying-for-blood fans (with the eception of Dave Cooke) but it is good for N2E that a N2E side have won the play-off

Saggy,

If I remember rightly Old Crossleyans were in the same league as Rovers when Power, Lilley, Kirton and co were breaking into the team at 18/19 years old.

The squad at the time also included the likes of Puckrin, Potts, Bri Robinson, Briggs, Drummond, Champion and some old fella called Rutherford.
