Aaron Myers in Squad

Aaron Myers in Squad
Aaron Myers is in a West squad for the first time since season 2008-2009. The 27 year old will be on the bench to face the renamed South Shields Westoe while Stu Waites is now fit again and he will be at full back.

Since then Myers has made quite a name for himself  specially in 7s where he has represented England and Great Britain.

The 27 year old has also featured in the 15 man game  for Falcons,  Mowden and Wharfedale and  has been coaching our forwards during the week. He has had weekend work commitments but is available to figure on a Saturday over the next few weeks.

Unfortunately, younger brother Eldon is unavailable having had to return to duty with the Royal Navy - an eventful return as he was involved in a car crash on  the way down country. Fortunately he is unscathed.

Scott Butcher is also unavailable, so there's a few changes in the backs from last week's bonus point win at Beverley. Zac moves onto the wing with Greg Edwards starting alongside Peter Youll. Seventeetn year old Joe Willis, just one of the many Colts developing under Carl Miller, provides backs cover.

This will also be the first home league game for Gavin Painter who now has two full 80 minutes under his belt after his long injury lay-off.

His play brings an extra exciting dimension to the backs, with one sublime back handed pass to brother Ryan the highlight of last week's game.

Not all of it came off last week, as the players still get to know each other, but there is always something happening when Gav is pulling the strings at 10.

The forwards remain unchanged after dominating last week, and with Liam Bailey proudly bearing the title of leading try scorer. His sharpness in seizing on mistakes earning him a brace against relegated Beverley.

S.S. Westoe are also facing life in a new division and are in a state of flux both on and off the pitch. They're looking to set up a new ground and are building a new side.

This takes time, and so far this season they've lost at City in the Durham Senior Cup, and failed to get on the scoreboard in their defeat at Dinnington last week. The last time the two clubs met, of course, was at the end of last season at Hollow Drift when we defeated the former Westoe 20-3 to lift the Durham Senior Cup.

West : Stu Waites, Zac Southern, Stu Waites, Peter Youll, Peter Youll, Luke Mallinson, Gav Painter, Ryan Painter, Ross Wood, Andrew Rollins, Adam Coates, Chris Atkins, Owen Bennett, Liam Bailey, Dan Boatman (captain ),Sam Miller.

Changes: Jack Angus, Aaron Myers, Joe Willis.

Looking forward to this game. I have a feeling that all the hard work the players and coaches have put in over the last few years is now coming together.
Good luck lads.
