The home side eventually ran out 44-20 winners mainly thanks to a hat trick from Steve Jones who showed he hasn't lost too much of his pace. Skill levels on both sides were also still evident despite the two big name players - John Dixon and Kevin Westgarth - failing to show.
The West side was put together by Morgan Hamilton and Graeme Southern and as well as a return fixture it looks like a few more Vets games could be in the offing.
Saldy the game ws the only one at Brinkburn on Saturday. The Stags were warming up for their CaNDY game when they discovered that Middlesbrough Wasps were back at home expecting the game to be at their place.
That's despite the Stags playing there in the league just a couple of weeks ago.
