West got off to a great start and with only a few minutes on the clock a good run from Liam Checksfield saw him cross for the try, although he was unable to make the conversion, 5 - 0. West kept the pressure on and were next to cross the whitewash when second row Aaron Maguire touched down, Checksfield slotted the conversion, 12 - 0. West seemed to ease off after this and allowed Ponteland back into the game and before half time some poor tackling saw them score three tries, two of which were converted, making the half time score 12 - 19.
The first half was a bit of a scrappy affair, although West's performance in the second half was much improved on that of the first. They were able to run the ball a bit more in the second half with all of the points coming from the back line. Centre Connor Allen made a few of his characteristic strong runs and was rewarded with two tries, both of which converted by Checksfield. Further scores were ran in by elusive winger Jordan Sanderson who also crossed for a couple of tries, neither of which were converted, making the final score 36 - 19.
A good second half performance pulled this one out of the bag for West, but we need to learn to play for the full sixty minutes and finish teams off when were ahead. There are a couple of areas that need working on, but in general another good performance and good win.
