The home side opened the scoring when their flanker picked up from a scrum and raced over for a try which was converted 7 – 0.

The Bucks came straight back and after several phases Bren Baggs crossed wide out. 7 – 5. From the restart the Bucks secured the ball and when Tom Wilson (making a welcome return) received the ball in his own 22 there looked to be nothing on but after breaking a tackle he fed Jon Cole who exchanged passes with young winger Matty Tyers before racing in under the posts, and converted to make it 7 – 12. 

 This was to set the tone for the rest of the half with the forwards working hard to get the backs good ball which the used to good effect. Chris Forrest was the next to score crashing over near the posts with Coley converting 7 – 19.

Tyers was next to score finishing off some good handling 7 - 24.  Gateshead had the last score of the half when they finished off some strong forward play scoring under the posts which was converted HT 14 – 24.

The second half followed the same pattern with good running rugby from the bucks causing problems for the home defence tries from Tyers and Martin Boatman had them 14 – 34 up before the home side again forced a score through their forwards 21 – 34 this then spurred on the Bucks and Tim Blades scored wide out when he was on the end of another flowing move, he however got injured in the process and had to be replaced.21 – 39.

The Bucks final score came again from a good break by the impressive Tyers who after getting to the line decided to pass the ball to Cole to avoid getting a hat trick and having get the beers in. Gateshead scored from the last play of the game following a penalty given away close to the line they again managed to crash over from short range.

The game was played in a good spirit and imaginatively refereed
