I am just about lost for words after this game. Probably the least said the better except to sympathise with the referee who did exceptionally well under the ciricumstances.

I agree ... the ref did do well, but he had his hands full.
I heard some of their supporters saying the ref had given the game to West.
In fact, Wheatley Hills gave the game to West through their indiscipline.

Well done to all the West players for keeping going to the end and snatching victory in the most unpleasant of circumstances.

I see Wheatley Hills are at Percy Park next weekend. Could be interesting - there were three sent off (2 WH, 1 PP) when they met earlier in the season.

Well done Pete on probably the hardest match to report on!

The least said the better is definitely the best thing - not looking forward to the return match in April.

Good to get the win when it looked like we were heading for defeat. Bizarre game with "interesting" travelling support. Regardless of the end result I also sympathise with the ref, who as people have already said, did well in very difficult conditions.

I couldn't disagree more; I think the ref was very poor! He seen the 13 throw a punch at Anth Carr and only spoke to his captain and also only give their number 8 a yellow card for his act of foul play on Cheslin. If the referee made the correct decisions on these two early acts of foul play then maybe Wheatley Hills wouldn't have continued in the same manner!

I was not at the game as iwas away with WH seconds, but can someone please explain how the ref can abandon the match at 77 minutes and restart the game, play somewhere between 9 and 11 minutes extra time???

Did he blow the final whistle, or was he just fed up of the fighting? It was too early for the end, and all the interuptions meant a lot of time needed to be added.
The whistle threw a lot of people, including the West player who had to be called back from almost in the changing rooms.
He must have been busting!!

Dear Greenman,

There was 10 minutes to go when the confusion arose, not after 77 minutes!
So the right amount of time was played by the end of the game.

surprised they never abandoned the match , stop you playing the return fixture and dock you ten points. this seems to be the normall way the county are dealing with this sort of thing this season!!!!!

The final whistle wasn't actually blown early, what I was getting it as it was the sort of whistle blow normally used to signify the end of a half/match and so had quite a few players/supporters confused.
After that incident there was a good 4-5 minute stoppage (almost as long as half time!) while various players were spoken to and the captains then speaking to their own players. That was where the injury time came from - and we kept the ball alive for the last 3-4 mins (if I remember rightly we had to tap a penalty because it was the last play) so full-time would have been blown if there'd been a stop in play.

the only person who can answer that is the ref!!

he blew up hard at the 70th minute prob cos he was fed up - like most of us - of the actions of a few players (and others!!) - he spoke to the captains and individuals let the situation calm down and played on for the 9 - 10 minutes that were left.

He couldn't blow up til the ball went dead - which it did when we scored the try etc which was from a penalty that he has to let play. Oh and there was a fair bit of injury time since two of our players were flat out at one point or another.

Totally agree with Westie88. I know it was tough to ref but if he got a grip of the game from the early stages then maybe the indiscipline from the away side would have been controlled a little.

Also agree with Ruprett; I gather there are other clubs who have complained about Wheatley Hills. They were simply disgraceful and the league needs to take a long hard look at them.
