Wigton started the brighter of the two sides, putting West under early pressure. Once West settled, though, their forwards began to grow into the game, carrying strongly and tidying up the breakdown to give the backs cleaner ball to play with. Chrissy Atkins opened West’s scoring before Sam Knight and Kieran Scollay added further tries during a productive first‑half spell. The pack kept the pressure on near the Wigton line, eventually forcing a penalty try after repeated infringements, with the home side’s number seven shown a yellow card. That spell of dominance helped West take control heading into the break. At half-time, Matty Baggs replaced Joe Chummers, adding fresh energy to the pack and helping West maintain momentum in the tight exchanges. West’s forwards continued to lay solid foundations in the second half, winning key collisions and providing the quick ball needed to stretch the home defence. Man of the match Kieran Scollay produced the standout moment, breaking clean through midfield before sending Ollie Connolly over with a perfectly timed pass. From the bench, replacement Kyle Jamieson made an instant impact, grabbing a brace of tries as West capitalised on space and tiring legs. There was additional good news for the club as Louis Ward and Fraser Henderson both made their league debuts, settling in well and contributing strongly. Jobe Roxby continued an excellent season from the tee, maintaining a position as the league’s top points scorer by adding three conversions and a penalty. Wigton battled to the end and were rewarded with the final try of the afternoon, scoring between the posts to secure a deserved bonus point. Overall, it was a strong team performance from West after a shaky start, built on forward dominance and sharp finishing, while Wigton can take plenty of encouragement from a determined and spirited display.
