The first team are looking for back to back wins after the eleven try defeat of bottom club Wigton last week. Before that game a match preview, provided by Cumbrian referees for the Cumbrian Crack website, described West as : “…. inconsistent but can be impressive on their day.” Interesting to see how others see us and a fair comment.
Consistency is what is required this week against a City side which is currently second bottom with two wins from their nine games. They do have 14 more points than Wigton, but this season two clubs will have to seek safety through the new relegation play-offs and City will be desperate to move out of the bottom three.
They come into the game after a 17-29 home defeat by Consett, who are one of the form teams in the league together with Guisborough who beat Morpeth 35-17 last week, and who are next up for West at Belmangate.
Not many changes after that big win. Adam Hutchinson is not available with Liam Pennick returning in the front row alongside Aidan Jackson-Smith and Andrew Rollins, who are both on top form.
The other changes are on the bench. Hayden Hodgson continues his introduction to senior rugby and will be alongside veteran Alex Barker and Sam Knight who has returned to training after missing last week’s game.
