The award was presented by Points West organiser Graham Frankland before the Stags game against Guisborough. That game took centre stage after Cockermouth cried off the Regional 2 North fixture. With so much already organised off the field for what would have been the last home game of the season, the club was very grateful to Guisborough for sending a team at such short notice - specially as their firsts had a promotion battle at Sunderland, which they won. |
The second team game at Brinkburn ended in a 75-5 win for the Stags with some notable performances including a 90-metre try scoring break from Jacob Wood who was celebrating his 18th birthday.
At the other end of the age spectrum Jacob found 52 year old Liam Larkin on his shoulder as he made another break with the veteran delighted to finish. Rugby the winner.
Only one more league game to go for the Firsts with a trip to Keswick on April 6th. The Cumbrians are battling with Stockton to avoid the second relegation place the Grangefield side host Morpeth on the same day. Keswick are just three points ahead and know their fate will be in their own hands, so it promises to be a tense affair.
Meanwhile West have already been awarded the five points for the Cockermouth "no-show" and with Aspatria hosting an in-form Middlesbrough a victory at Kewsick could provide a fifth placed finish. Latest league table
