Its a long time since my last Boxing day trip and no one could fault the effort from both sides.

However a lot of the action was spoilt by a referee who
played it by the book, did not allow for the "Boxing Day Rivallry" and the spirit of the game. Why do we constantly see referees being "Assessed" taking away there better judgement on the day, at the time, and understanding the players thoughts.

The first yellow card involving the dark haired player from West and the Blonde Haired player from Rovers (sorry dont know names) gave no side any advantage and could have been dealt with another way.

Im glad he wasnt around a few years ago at proper west/rovers derbies. Sevens anyone!

Best of luck to both sides and i might be back in a couple of years.

The Ref was not being assessed, and if anything he was a bit lenient when he should have played it by the book!! Well said about the first 2 yellow cards, no advantage to either side, that was the point!! the players needed to cool down, who knows what could have happened if they have stayed on the field, at the end of the day both sides need all the players they can get and with the current sightings the last thing West need is for one of their players being red carded and missing for a number of league games or even worse, injured by an opponent player who the Ref DID not deal with , with a yellow card, yellow cards are a tool best used when needed, wrong or right the game ended with all players from both sides finishing the game unscathed and ready to play next week..Well done to both teams.

If the ref wasn't being assessed, who was the young lad walking round the touchline with a clipboard (don't you just love clipboards?) who, I'm reliably informed, told people he was the assessor?

The young lad with the clipboard is a young Durham Referee who asked if he could listen in for the purpose of his development. He also took and fed back statistics to the clubs coaches which are helpful for coaching. (Clipboards!! Owe what a modern and sophisticated world we live in)!!

From what i saw it was a typical Boxing Day game. Both sides giving it all and it was reasonably close but by far the better team won. On the Rovers site, they reckon Rovers were the better team and whingeing about the £5 entry fee.
Also on their website, you cannot post a reply to the deluded crap on there!!! Note for Bill Dale also***** Bill, if your that upset over the fiver entry, i will put £2 behind the bar for you ok??
