Firsts Kick Off New Year
The thaw looks to have come in time to ensure the West v Upper Eden game kicks off 2026. The pitch was in fine condition on Friday with an inspection on Saturday morning if there is an overnight frost. Unfortunately,  the Blaydon Georgians game against the Stags is off as the home team can't raise a side ...

The Regional 2 North game is a veritable mid-table clash with West in sixth place on 36 points and Upper Eden in eight with 34 points. The prize this season for both clubs is to get into the new play-off places, which means finishing at least in fifth place.

The sides met at Pennine Park back in October with West putting in a very solid team performance and going on to win 26-18 -  Nick Bennions scoring twice alongside Ollie Connolly and Connor McLurg.

Nick and Ollie will be in this week's side which has a few changes after the Christmas festivities. There were a few injuries picked up against Rovers -notably Liam Pennick, who was off to hospital with a shoulder injury, and to skipper Chris Atkins who pulled a hamstring putting in a chip and chase kick.

The former Adademy players who experienced the first of many Boxing Day games acquitted themselves very well , with Hayden Hodgson and Joe Cholmondeley keeping their places in the starting ine-up.

Aidan Jackson-Smith also continues in the back row where Isaac Robinson takes over from Atkins at No.8.

On the bench Jonny Wray and Jack Angus provide forwards cover with Matty Baggs covering the backs.
