The visitors arrived with a "mere "22 after their own shakedown at Kendal last week running in four tries to West's three.
With Will Corbett, Liam Pennick, Ollie Connolly, Ryan Painter, Issac Robinson and last season's top scorer Max Tennant all missing for various reasons, the various line-ups on the pitch had an unfamilair look all afternoon.
But there were several plus points, including the performance of new arrivals Chino Rocha and Jobe Roxby. The Argentinian flanker looked fit and sharp during fairly brief spells on the pitch and he made the first try - taking a long throw at the back of a line-out on the Ryton 22 and being quick to the line where the lively Aidan Jackson-Smith was in support to score.
Against the run of play Aidan then gave his side a 14-0 lead wheh he scampered home in style from the 22. Matt Siddle gettng West's third try from a quick tap in the final quarter
Fly-haf Roxby was also used sparingly, but showed his class with some astute kicking and several line breaks, while his voice was the commanding one in the backs.
With three teams in league action next season Ryton provided a hard and very useful work-out, particularly for the players stepping up to senior rugby for the first time.
