West scored nine of them - Matt Siddle converting them all - with Kirkby Lonsdale leaving with a deserved bonus point as they struggle to avoid relegation.

Both sides were missing regular players with the result that defences were not tight,  but that led to some enterprising  play from both teams.

West went Into the game with a late injury cry-off from Nick Bennions,  which meant that prop Liam Pennick had to join Stags’ skipper Jonny Wray in the second row.

Peter Youll selected himself to do a shift at No. 8 and got things moving with an early try from a catch and drive. Kirkby quickly came back with a catch and drive of their own from skipper Stuart Storey,  which was unconverted.

On a fine sunny day both sets of backs looked to run the ball and a sweeping move from right to left from West saw skipper Ryan Painter judge his pass to send Ollie Connolly over.

Max's Five

The West centre was involved in most of the attacking play in the first hal. He turned provider on the quarter hour when he sent Tennant away for the first of his tries. The left winger still had a lot to do as he received just inside the opposition half, but there was no stopping him as he broke the first tackle to race to the posts.

Two minutes later he was touching down for the second time as he came off his line with Connolly sending him over next to the posts. Seventeen minutes had been played and West had their try bonus point and a 28-5 lead.

That was soon increased by seven points as Connolly was once again involved - sending Painter over for a smart finish and another straightforward conversion for Siddle.

The floodgates looked to be well and truly open but Kirkby weren’t prepared to be overwhelmed. Prop Alex Briggs almost got over, however he had hooker Aaron Parker in support and he was able to squeeze over to take the score to 35-12. That quickly became 35-17 as West were still debating that try among themselves, From the restart Kirkby attacked up the left with fly-half Ben Lawson taking an inside ball to go over in the corner.

The visitors went into the half-time team talk buoyed that 35-17 scoreline,  but any hopes of a fightback were soon squashed by Tennant. Flanker Charlie Kay showing good hands to feed the winger five metres inside his own half.

There was plenty of cover in front of him but after jinking inside his opposite winger Tennant set off into the heart of the Kirkby defence,   rounding and sidestepping as he finished in style in front of the clubhouse terrace.

Kirkby Lonsdale then had their best spell of pressure but couldn’t reduce that 25 point margin. In  fact, it looked like it had been increased when West did  break out with replacement Kieran Scollay forcing his way over. However, referee Louis Dinsdale ruled he’d been held up.

There was no doubt about the next score as Ryan Painter  threw a dummy pass to make space for himself inside the  22 (above).

Once again West scored from the restart. That man Tennant sticking to the touchline this time as he showed a clean pair of heels from the half-way.

At 56-17 the game was won,  but by no means over as Kirkby got their well-earned bonus point with two quick tries.

Once again the West defenders were caught discussing the finer points of missed tackles as Kirkby were awarded  a penalty ten metres out. Skipper Storey spotting the opportunity to take a quick tap for  his side’s fourth try.

Five minutes later they got their fifth of the afternoon as a high cross-field kick eluded Tennant - centre Bradley Moss taking advantage to score with full back Ollie Higgs’s conversion going over after hitting the post.

This season the majority of West’s games have ended with a try followed by the final whistle at the conversion. In this game there was only one player to fittingly end proceedings as Tennant  got his fifth courtesy of an interception by Scollay on the Kirkby 22.

On a good day for West the Bucks, the club’s third team, hosted Acklam Talbots winning  38-12.
