Linighan Returns
Consett are the opposition for both the Firsts and Stags as we head into the business end of the season…

The Stags will be at home and looking to keep their unbeaten CaNDY league run going as they push for promotion to Division One. They top the league with 70 points -  nine points head of Stockton Saracens and Darlington Bulls,  who have both played two games more.

Every successful first team is boosted by a strong second team -if you can’t get to Consett for the Regional 2 game your support at Brinkburn  will be appreciated. Kick off is 2.00.

Meanwhile, the draw for the Pyman Cup was made this week and the Stags will host Hartlepool IIs on Saturday May 5th. The other ties are BBOB v Rovers Heughers and Peterlee and Horden IIs v Seaton. The winner of the Stags game will play the best loser in the semi-final.

The kick off at Amethyst Park is also at 2.00. The hosts have a new coach in Falcons back-row Cameron Neild,  and have won their last two league games. In fact, they are on a run of four home games having beaten Sunderland 38-24 in the Durham Senior Cup,  followed by a 45-5 defeat of struggling Kirkby Lonsdale and last week’s 42-24 win over Keswick.

The Firsts go into the game following an entertaining 50-29 win over Aspatria last week. Both sides had a few missing for the rearranged game,  and this week we will see the return of Jake Linighan, Ollie Connolly and skipper Ryan Painter,  with Sam Knight and Liam Pennick also available again and providing cover from the bench.

Painter will be at fly-half, with Matt Siddle returning to full back, and Matty Baggs at scrum half following his accomplished performance last week.

Up front, Nick Bennions will continue in the second row alongside Jake with Will Corbett nursing a shoulder injury.

The Stags will go into their home game with a new face on the bench in the shape of hooker Reece Kundu,  who has joined from Billingham. Skipper Jonny Wray also returns to action following illness, which required a stay in hospital and it’s good to see him  back.

Adam Hutchinson was also away last week. He’ll pack down in a strong Stags' front row with Liam Liston and Tim Blades.
