The first games of 2025 have been a long time coming and the reward for the improved weather is two trips across the A66 ….

First up is a visit to Keswick where the home side have triumphed in the last two games on the banks of the Derwent.

The league game back in April saw Keswick avoid relegation with a 21-12 win in front a big crowd. And then a few weeks later they won the Papa Johns Cup semi-final 28-24 despite scoring only one try as opposed to West’s four. Since then work has begun on a new £1.5m clubhouse with players and supporters being looked after in temporary accommodation while work progresses.

This season’s league game at Brinkburn was a resounding 50-17 win for West,  which went some way to redressing  the balance.

However, with things still remaining tight at the top of Regional 2 North,  this week’s game together with next week’s trip to struggling Upper Eden,  are games West want to win before the visit of close rivals Morpeth on February 1st.

Only a couple of changes. With Max Tennant unavailable Sam Knight switches to the wing with Matt Siddle at full back and Ben Reed returning to fly-half.

Adam Hutchinson starts up front with Liam Pennick staying at home to start for the Stags who host Seaham.
