Well it was certainly a warm one at Upper Eden reaching highs of 27 which was a hard task for the fair haired members of the team ...

We took down 18 Men with our three subs being of a slightly different era than the young lads. And one being our very own club physio Gez who was keeping the first team company.

  Stags at Upper Eden

It was a nail biting game with some excellent  rugby by both teams. Seeing the game 0-0 for the first 50 minutes with some great defence from West. A special mention to Louie who was having an amazing defending game putting  in some huge hits. Unfortunately one later on was with his head which he had to come off for. This then brought on the experienced Graeme Scott on the wing.

It was Upper Eden to take the first points sharply followed by a great try form Craig Hadwen showing his strength backed up by an exceptional kick form Zac form the touch line 7-7.

Upper Eden then stuck again twice with some great back play and individual speed from a talented youth converted. 21-7

Charlie Kay who had an exceptional game in both attack and defence took a knock to the side of his hip which then meant it was Cam to shine who if he had slightly longer hamstrings would have saw him get over the white wash but the sniper was out and took its victim after some strong running and Charlie rested to swap back in. To be then swapped around again with 10 mins to go. Also then swapping Cameron Alison with Gez who certainly levelled the playing field on the scrum front.

West were applying some great pressure and looking sharp with ball in hand this saw us receive a penalty which saw Zac pick and go with an unconverted try and the last points of the game 21-12.

Man of the match for West was Liam Larkin who had a phenomenal game out of position at 9 however did not look out of place at all. My apologise to Upper Eden I didn’t catch their man on the match but the full team put on a really good show.

The lads should be extremely proud of themselves playing at the pace and intensity they did for so long. A few more numbers at training would see the stags team to be a force to be reckoned with cutting out some of the small mistakes would could have been capitalised for some points on the board.

A special thank you to Charlie Geritz for keeping the lads hydrated and running the water on at every opportunity.

Post match grub an option of a sausage or a pie with chips and beans, outstanding ! There where seconds for those with a larger appetite followed by a very quiet bus trip home.
