With four of last week's backs missing, for various reasons, it meant a wholesale reshuffle against a home side which had plenty of pace in their back division plus some excellent support play. In order to get a Stags team out there wasn't a backs replacement on the first team bench. 

Matty Baggs (above)  was making his debut at scrum half , Matt Siddle starting at fly half, a new centre partnership in Jake Tennant and Will Hilditch, Jordan Painter coming in on the wing and Sam Knight starting only his second game - this time at full back. 

The only back who was in the same position as last weeks 's starting XV was winger Lewis Scott (right)  who volunteered to play despite taking part in Sunday's Great North Run. There were big positives for West in the perfomance of the two former Academy players.  Baggs was assured throughout with his quick flat pass giving Siddle excellent service, while Sam Knight put in three or four tremendous tackles when he was the last man. He also put in a superb tackle to take out an Upper Eden winger in the corner only to see West's line-out throw going to the tail where a grateful prop Finlay Rose  collected to rumble over. West had been in the game for the first hour, but when they started to miss first up tackles Upper Eden were quick to take advantage running in four tries in the final quarter.

The home side had taken an early lead when No 8. John Blue burst through the middle to set up an easy conversion for fly-half Oli Bennett, who was not to miss a kick all afternoon.

West came back with Matt Siddle sending Will Hilditch gliding over and with West dominant in the scrum, if not the line-out, it was anybody's game with scores level at 7-7 at the break.

There had been chances close to the line, which Upper Eden managed to keep out, and the arrival of Jay Corbett at No 8, with Jake Linighan taking over from Will Corbett in the second row,  looked a positive move,

However, Jay was soon off to the bin after diving in at the breakdown - Bennett slotting the penalty before  Upper Eden went further ahead with the close range try from that unfortunate line-out in the corner.

Matt Siddle reduced the arrears with a penalty, but that was to prove to be West's last score.

John Blue got his second of the afternoon crossing with some ease. Two minutes later the home side scored again through Bennett who finished off a slick move out to the left to take the score to 31-10 .

They were quickly followed two further tries as those tired  missed tackles and Upper Eden's excellent support play produced two further scores with Blue getting his third try and replacement James Birkbeck in support to go over from close range.
