HEAD GREENKEEPERS REPORT
Barry Walker
AUGUST 2012
Greens
We have had the Agronomists visit with the report to follow in a few weeks, but in a nutshell the programme that we are currently following is the right way forward but must be backed up by a drainage programme on the greens.
In the last week the weather has dictated that we can continue with our top dressing and surface aeration programme. At the back end of August we will be hollow coring, over-seeding, sand dressing and top dressing (70/30 sand – soil). This will cause a few days of inconvenience as we carry out this process, so please bare with us as this is a ‘must do’ operation in the continuation of the greens playability. The above process will be enhanced with liquid products to promote germination, sub-structural aeration and disease resistance. Hopefully, the work will be carried out in three days – weather permitting.
Tees
The fertiliser has been applied and the maintenance programme is ongoing.
Fairways
We are continuing with the extra cut on the fairways until conditions dictate otherwise.
Bunkers
Bunkers are monitored on a daily basis and necessary work carried out when needed.
General Comments
Winter greens on 3rd, 4th, 6th, 11th, 14th, 15th and 17th are starting to be prepared.
This month we will be spraying the course with a selective weed killer in all necessary areas.
We have GUR’d all waterlogged and stagnant areas. These will be addressed in the autumn.
