DSE National Short Course 2008, Ponds Forge, Sheffield, 01-02/11/08

Two Dragons Disabled Swimming Club members went up as part of the Welsh squad which competed at the DSE National Short Course Championships 2008 held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield. Jonathan Eke (S10 SB10 SM10) and Nathan Eke (S17), both twelve years old took their places in a Welsh squad that included Paralympic stars such as David Roberts, Graham Edmunds, Ellie Simmonds, Liz Johnson, Anthony Stephens, Rob Welbourn and Matthew Whorwood.

Prior to the first session on Saturday morning, the returning British Paralympic medalists who were at the event had an opportunity to show off their medal haul, and also allowed the spectators a chance to applaud their efforts as they were paraded around poolside. The event also saw TV coverage with two television networks filming the Saturday sessions.

Accompanying Nathan and Jonathan in the Welsh squad were our very own Peter Key and Ian Eke who went up as part of the coaching team that included British Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association Disability coach of the year, Billy Pye, who coaches the Welsh stars based at the High Performance Centre in Swansea.
