Some interesting games and a very difficult start to the season. Not sure of the wisdom of playing Rovers twice in December. Is it a human being who draws this up or a computer?

having the derby as last game of the season could well mean it ends up a bit of a damp squib if there's nothing to play for. then again if either team is in the promotion/relegation mix it could be a great game to finish with.

not many easy away games looking at the fixtures. some long treks and cumbria twice in jan/feb will be tough....lets hope for another mild winter!

Also seems quite a few blank weekends, maybe they are 'cup' dates or something?

hopefully west will have secured promotion before the last game of the season* but what a final game that could be if we both teams needed the win.

* dear rovers fans, please re-read that sentence, it includes the word "hopefully", this is not the same as saying west are a dead cert for promotion.

Good to see so many new names in fixture list, we shouldn't underestimate the Cumbrian clubs after Penrith season before last. With 9 free weekends ( not sure how many cup fixtures ), I hope clubs vote for two extra teams in the division in future, I know free week-ends can help injuries to recover, but they can also disrupt winning runs and should help teams with stronger squads.

With rovers last match of season should keep message board more interesting for a few weeks after season ends.

U18s are to play 14 league games on Saturdays, next season.
These fixtures have been passed onto Les, John and Graham.

Now we have 1st XV and U18 fixtures, the Stags and Ams fixtures can be finalised.

On Saturdays when the U18s are not playing, they will be encouraged to be involved with the Senior teams, which can only be a good thing for team and player development.

So a lot of (if not most!) Saturdays next season will be busy, with us having 2 games at home. Good for bar takings and general club atmosphere!

Fair to say that all is looking rosey.

Surely 18 year olds are better off playing men's rugby?

Wonderfish,

They will be playing both, so the best of both worlds!

Remember, it is an U18 team, so some of the lads may be 16 and hence not eligible for Senior rugby until they are 17 and of course 18 for front-row players. In addition, we will be fielding an U17 Sunday team.

We are in a very fortunate position to be able to field U17 and U18 teams and this is supported by the RFU, who have set up local leagues (Durham/Northumberland/Cumbria) in order to keep these young men playing rugby. There has always been a problem with retention of players at U17/U18, so the RFU have been working with local clubs to address this issue and it appears to be working.

Fella's

Can I suggest some one confirms with Chris / Nick the number of lads in next seasons U18's squad because if next seasons U17's play a Sunday team there won't be enough lads to put out an 18's team.

Of the 2006-2007 18's squad (approx 25-28) only about 10 of them where U17's.

Cheers

Chris, Nick and Barry are aware of the situation.
U18s (Saturday) and U17s (Sunday) will not be playing every weekend.
They are looking at a combined U17s/U18s squad.
So on occasion, some lads might play on the Saturday and Sunday.
Hope that is clear!

obviously too concerned with your surroundings to notice that the rovers back row, while good, are not even the best in the town, never mind the league.

if you're trying to say that any of the rovers back row are better than either Jonny Boatman or Myers then you're just plain wrong and you'd be hard pushed to find anybody who agrees with you.
