PRESIDENT v CAPTAIN’S CHALLENGE MATCH
The team members met to play the annual challenge match on Sunday 26th October 2014 at the CITY, the start of a memorable day which was about camaraderie & friendship. The weather provided a stern test – blustery winds and intermittent light rain.
Interesting tales of the events unravelled.
25 feet sideways putts dropping - excursions to the deep rough – duffed chips - tremendous shot making – peerless drives – hitting an approach shot from 160 yards to 6 inches from the pin for a birdie – a clincher for the match – players in joyous embrace – long walks with putter in hand – shots a bit like ‘Seve’ - stories of hope & happiness contrasted with some horrors – wayward shots into the woods...
The highlight of the day was the eagle 3 recorded by John Harrison on the 17th – a drive and 7 iron.
A marvellous encounter which does much to cement the traditions of the CLUB.
The players reassembled for an evening meal during which the president was presented with his ‘tie’ & Alan Cairns with his past president’s ‘tie’.
An opportunity was taken to present Ian FRAZER was the’ Past Captains Match Play Salver’, a recent success over Jim Screen.
Thanks to all for making the event such a memorable day for captain Bob and myself.
Oh yes the result – winners were the Captain’s team...
