CAPTAIN’S MONTHLY REPORT JULY 2011
NEWCASTLE & DISTRICT LEAGUE TEAM:- This month the team has played matches against Newcastle Utd, Morpeth, Gosforth and Whitley Bay. Results have been good with the City still topping the league with a healthy 119 points. With just one match left in the season we need to secure 6 points away to Westerhope to take the league title.
3rd CAPTAIN’S MIXED COMPETITION:- This was a most enjoyable golfing day as well as a good social occasion. There was a good turn out and Ann and I played in the first group and had a good game with our fourball partners.
7th ENGLISH GOLF UNION U16 CHAMPIONSHIP:- This month Jack Hermeston won this prestigious competition around a tricky South Moor course with a 7 under par score, beating his nearest rivals by several strokes. This should project Jack into the English national squad next year and he has already been selected to be one of three to represent the E.G.U. at the U16 Italian Championships in September 2011.
24th PRESIDENT'S DAY:- Ian McIntosh provided the club and members with a perfect days golf with prizes, on course refreshments and dinner for his guests. The day went without a hitch with good weather and the course in excellent condition. Thanks to Ian for his hospitality.
OTHER VARIOUS EVENTS THIS MONTH:- The Club have hosted a charity day for Stroke Awareness, a corporate day for Lloyds Newcastle(BMW), our Seniors Open and Invitation Day. All these events have gone off smoothly due in no small part to the efforts of all the City staff.
ENGLISH AMATEUR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP:- Congratulations once again to Phil Ridden who, following his success in the Lagonda Trophy, got as far as the last eight of this major National knockout competition.
