CAPTAIN’S MONTHLY REPORT APRIL 2011
2nd/3rd APRIL – INTERCOUNTY FOURSOMES:- On the 2nd April the City staged the first & second rounds of the this competition. The team progressed through to the next stage at Backworth the following day and won through to the finals. Thanks to all City staff concerned, the day went off without a hitch.
9th APRIL – COUNTY NORTH & SOUTH TROPHY:- Several City players entered this event at Dunstanburgh G.C. Despite the strong breeze there was some excellent scoring. Three City Players Phil Ridden, Neil Elborn and Paul Souter finished 3rd, 5th & 6th respectively with Neil’s performance earning him county selection.
16th APRIL – THOMPSON SHIELD:- Vice Captain Bill Gibson and myself played at Northumberland G.C. in the this season opening competition of the N & D Golf League. On a good day for playing golf we managed to finish a credible third. It was an enjoyable day enabling us to meet all the Captains and Vive Captains for the 2011 season.
21st APRIL – GOSFORTH LEAGUE FRIENDLY:- It was the City’s turn to host this annual match which was played in an excellent spirit and a good evening was had by all. Most of the team’s squad players took part and were able to gain some match play competition in the run up to the 2011 season.
28th APRIL – LEAGUE MATCH AGAINST TYNESIDE:- This was the first match of the season. Playing at home the team ran out the winners with a comfortable 10-2 win. On a cool but sunny evening the City supporters were out in force to watch this first game.
