Swansea will have a third representative in next seasons Welsh Football League after it was announced that West End will make the step-up from local league football.

The Swansea Senior League champions will take part in Division 3 of the Welsh League for the first time in their history next term, just one division below ourselves and Morriston Town, Swansea’s only other two Welsh League representatives.

West End, who are based in Townhill, have been a dominant force in the Swansea Senior League over recent seasons, winning the title on four occasions in the past seven seasons and finishing as runners-up in the other three First Division campaigns. Along with their championship win and promotion this season, they lifted the FAW Trophy for the first time with a 3-1 win over Welsh Alliance outfit Rhydymwyn last month, beating the likes of Risca & Gelli, Tillery and Treharris Athletic on the way - surely a sign that they’re ready for the step-up to the Welsh League.

They play their last game in the Swansea League against West Wales Intermediate Cup finalists St. Joseph’s this afternoon, and on Wednesday they’ll be looking to add the Swansea League Senior Cup to their multiple successes this season when they face Ragged School at St. Helens in the final – a repeat of last seasons final which they lost at the Vetch Field.

Another side that have won promotion to the Welsh League for next season are Cambrian & Clydach Vale. The South Wales Amateur League champions were due to face South Wales Senior League side Bridgend Street in a promotion play-off last Thursday, but the FAW ruled that the ground at Bridgend Street was incapable of hosting Welsh League football, meaning that Cambrian have been promoted automatically. Gwent County League side Cwmbran Celtic, who finished runners-up to First Division champions Clydach Wasps, have apparently also won promotion to the Welsh League.

The three promoted sides are set to replace Fields Park Pontllanfraith and Albion Rovers (Newport) after their relegation from the Welsh League; with three teams going into the Third Division, only two will go down to keep the number of sides in the division at 18 for next season.
