GARDEN VILLAGE  4 - 1  BRYNTIRION ATHLETIC

Pre-Season Friendly
Tuesday August 7, 2007

A fine display capped off a successful pre-season for Garden Village as the start of the new Second Division season draws even nearer.

Bob Lloyd's side took their summer goal tally to 15 with four strikes against a mixed Bryntirion side with a confidence-boosting performance ahead of Saturday's big game at Barry Town.

The home side were without five players which started last weekend's win against a Swansea City XI - Stuart Lloyd, Jeff Aspell, Sam Brown, Anthony Wright and Lee Rastatter - and despite some early pressure from the visitors it was Gavin Guy who broke the deadlock with his first Village goal on 10 minutes, thundering a shot past the Bryntirion 'keeper who blocked Cameron Hopkins' original strike.

Marc Lloyd doubled the home side's advantage three minutes later with a simple tap-in after a mistake by the goalkeeper but Bryntirion were back to within a goal when Mark Jones put through his own net on 27 minutes.

Liam Soroka set-up Lloyd to shoot wide just after the half-hour and Gary Davies directed a header onto the upright five minutes before the break but Ashley Richards ensured that Village would go into half-time with a two-goal advantage when he met Marc Lloyd's cross with a header and sent the visiting shot-stopper the wrong way.

A quiet second period of play saw both sides make countless personnel changes on the field, which included the introduction of many younger players, but it was experienced Village substitute David Evans who further increased the lead on 64 minutes with a close-range header from Marc Lloyd's corner.

The new season is now well and truly upon us and Garden Village, judging by their pre-season performances, will show no fear as they take to the field against seven-time Welsh Premiership champions Barry at Jenner Park on Saturday (2.30).
